How to get your business recommended by ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI

Nobody can guarantee AI placement. Here is what you can do so ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI can find, understand and trust your business.

You cannot buy or force a recommendation from ChatGPT, Gemini or Google’s AI answers, and anyone who promises one is guessing. What you can do is make your business easy for these tools to find, understand and trust: a clear website that answers real customer questions, a complete Google Business Profile, consistent details everywhere, genuine reviews and mentions on other sites.

That is the whole game. The rest of this article is how to play it properly, without paying for magic tricks.

Why this matters for your business

Picture a customer in Jounieh asking their phone: “Best dentist near me who speaks French and takes Saturday appointments?” The AI answers with two or three names. If yours is not one of them, that customer never sees you. No missed call, no unread DM. Just a booking that went to someone else.

Two things are worth knowing before you panic, both from a US survey of 1,201 people (DreamHost 2026 Local Business Trust Index, January 2026):

  • Only 3% of US consumers said they start with AI when looking for a local business. Google and websites still do most of the work.
  • After an AI recommendation, 45% search Google for more information and 34% go straight to the business website. Only 35% would consider an AI-recommended business that has no website.

Those are US numbers, not Lebanese ones. But the lesson travels well: AI is one more door customers walk through, and almost every door leads back to your website and your Google listing. Fix those two and you are working on every channel at once.

How these AI tools actually pick businesses

None of them pulls names out of thin air. When a question needs fresh, local information, they search the web and summarise what they find.

  • Google AI Overviews and AI Mode use Google’s normal search index. Google states there are no extra requirements to appear: your page needs to be indexed and eligible to show in normal search. It also says no special AI file or special schema markup is needed.
  • Gemini leans on Google Search and Google Maps. For local questions it now shows map pins, star ratings, photos and summaries of Google Maps reviews.
  • ChatGPT search crawls the web with its own bot (OAI-SearchBot) and partner search data. OpenAI says any public website can appear, as long as it does not block that bot.

When BrightLocal tested ChatGPT on local searches, about 58% of the sources it cited were the businesses’ own websites. Directories and articles that mention businesses made up the rest. A later BrightLocal test across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Mode again found business websites were the most common source. Small tests, honest caveats, but the direction is clear.

Translation: if your business lives only on Instagram, the AI has very little to read. A login-walled feed is a closed shop to a crawler. More on that in Instagram vs. website.

Seven practical steps, in order

1. Write pages that answer real questions

Open WhatsApp and scroll your last 50 customer messages. The questions repeat: price range, location, parking, opening hours, delivery areas, whether you take dollars or lira, how long a job takes. Each of those deserves a plain, written answer on your website.

Be specific. “We serve Beirut” is weak. “We deliver to Achrafieh, Hamra, Badaro and Mar Mikhael, same day if you order before 2pm” is something an AI can quote. Keep the important stuff in real text, not baked into a nice-looking image or a PDF menu.

2. Use the same name, address and phone everywhere

Lebanese addresses are already an adventure (“third floor, above the pharmacy, next to where the old bakery used to be”). Do not make it worse. Pick one exact business name, one address format and one main phone or WhatsApp number, then use them identically on your website, Google Business Profile, Facebook, Instagram bio and any directory.

Mixed details make it harder for any system, human or machine, to be sure the “Abou Karim Grill” in Tripoli and the “Karim’s Grill” with a different number are the same place.

3. Complete your Google Business Profile, properly

Google says local ranking comes down to relevance, distance and prominence, and that complete, accurate information helps. Verify the profile. Choose the right category. Add hours (including holiday hours), photos, services, attributes, and a link to your website. Then keep it current: an AI that tells a customer you are open on Sunday when you are not is costing you a review.

4. Ask for reviews, and answer them

Google lists the number and rating of reviews as part of prominence, and Gemini now summarises what reviewers say about you. So the words matter, not just the stars. Ask happy customers to mention what they actually got: “root canal”, “birthday cake”, “AC repair in Zalka”.

Reply to every review, including the angry ones. Calm, polite replies show the next reader, and the next AI summary, that a real person runs this business. Never buy reviews. It breaks Google’s rules and it reads fake to everyone.

5. Add an FAQ section

A short FAQ on your key pages does two jobs: it answers customers before they message you, and it gives AI tools neat question-and-answer pairs to work with. Five honest questions beat twenty padded ones.

6. Add structured data (behind the scenes)

Structured data is a small block of code that tells search engines, in a format they read easily, “this is a dentist, this is the address, these are the hours.” It does not guarantee anything, and Google says AI features need no special markup. But it helps Google understand your business, and it must match what is visible on the page. On a WordPress site this is usually a setting, not a project.

7. Get mentioned elsewhere

AI tools trust a business more when other sites confirm it exists. Useful places: local directories, your suppliers’ or partners’ websites, chambers of commerce, local news or food blogs, event pages, industry associations. One real mention in a respected Lebanese publication is worth more than fifty spammy directory listings.

Common mistakes

  • Paying for “guaranteed AI placement”. Nobody controls what ChatGPT or Gemini says. Anyone selling a guarantee is selling hope with an invoice.
  • Blocking the bots by accident. Some security plugins, hosting settings or “block AI” toggles stop crawlers from reading your site. If you want to appear in ChatGPT search, do not block OAI-SearchBot. Ask whoever built your site to check.
  • Hiding everything in images. A gorgeous menu photo tells a crawler almost nothing. Put prices and dishes in text too.
  • Stuffing keywords. “Best cheap top dentist Beirut dentist Lebanon” helps no one. Write like you talk to a customer.
  • Setting it up once and forgetting it. Hours change, prices change in dollars and lira, phone numbers change. Old information is worse than none.

Where One Call Studio fits (honestly)

Most of the list above is work you can do yourself this week, especially the Google profile and reviews. Where owners usually get stuck is the website: clear pages, a proper FAQ, structured data and nothing accidentally blocking crawlers.

That is the part One Call Studio, from the team behind Webboxed, handles. Every build includes basic SEO and Google Search Console setup. If you want us to go further, there is an AI search preparation add-on (from $250), and the Care + Visibility plan ($600/yr) keeps an eye on your SEO and Google Business Profile every quarter. Neither guarantees AI placement, because nothing can. They just remove the reasons an AI might skip you. Curious about budgets first? See how much a website costs in Lebanon in 2026.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay to get my business recommended by ChatGPT or Gemini?

No. There is no paid placement inside ChatGPT or Gemini answers, and Google says you cannot pay for a better local ranking either. You can only make your business easier to find, understand and trust.

Do I need a website if I already have a Google Business Profile?

Both help, and they work best together. Studies of AI search found business websites were the most common source AI tools cited for local queries, and your profile links customers back to your site for details.

Do I need a special file or code for AI tools to read my site?

Google says no special AI file or special markup is needed for AI Overviews or AI Mode. Standard good practice applies: crawlable pages, important content in text, and structured data that matches what is on the page.

How long does it take to show up in AI answers?

There is no fixed timeline and no guarantee. New or updated pages first need to be crawled and indexed, which can take days to weeks, and reviews and mentions build up over months.

Does Arabic or French content help?

If your customers search in Arabic or French, having those answers on your site gives AI tools and Google something to match in that language. Write it properly rather than machine-translating everything.
